GERMANY – 9 days

Situated in Rhineland-Palatinate just 13 miles north of the city of Koblenz and a few hundred metres distance upstream from the northern section of the Romantic Middle Rhine region lays the pretty riverside city of Andernach. Set against a backdrop of hills and vineyards Andernach is steeped in history with numerous attractions such as the 56 metre high round tower, St Mary’s Cathedral, Old Derricks, Namedy Castle, Geysers, Caves and well preserved city walls.

The family run Rheinkrone Hotel is conveniently situated close to the river and to the old town centre and offers a warm and friendly welcome to visitors. All rooms have private facilties, telephone, television, trouser press and safe. A lift serves all floors and the  restaurant serves buffet style breakfast and waiter service evening meal with choice of menu. Assistance with luggage is available if required.

Itinerary

Day 1: Leisurely outward journey via Eurotunnel to Calais or Ostend for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Continue to the Rhine Valley and spend 6 nights at the Hotel Rheinkrone Andernach Hotel.
Day 3: Day of leisure in Rhine Valley.
Day 4: Full day excursion along the Rhine Valley to the picturesque village of Rudesheim, were we will take a short stop with time to wander around the famous Drosselgasse lined with bars and gardens. Continue along the Rhine to Lorch for the short ferry crossing over the river to Bacharach and Boppard.
Day 5: Full day excursion travelling along the Moselle River to the historic town of Cochem were we will spend a few  hours exploring this remarkable town which is dominated by its 1,000 year old castle perched high above the town.
Day 6: Full day excursion travelling along the little known gem, the Lahn Valley, a tributary of the mighty Rhine with its medieval towns, magnificent castles and lush green countryside to Linburg where we take a lunch stop. After a short stop in Linburg we then travel back along the Lahn Valley to Bad Ems or an afternoon stop before returning to our hotel.
Day 7: Day of leisure in Rhine Valley.
Day 8: Travel to Calais or Ostend for an overnight stay.
Day 9: After an early breakfast, continue via Eurotunnel, arriving home early evening.
